The Marvel animated universe on Disney Junior just keeps getting larger, as the network has announced an all-new animated series aimed at pre-schoolers, and starring the Avengers. The new show is titled Marvel’s Avengers: Mightiest Friends, and it is scheduled to debut in 2027. It will join the currently airing Spidey and his Amazing Friends, and the upcoming Iron Man and his Awesome Friends, which premieres next week.
The official description for Marvel’s Avengers: Mightiest Friends reads as follows, “Evolving from the new Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends series (premiering August 11 on Disney Jr., next day on Disney+), Marvel’s Avengers: Mightiest Friends introduces kid versions of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes: Iron Man (Tony Stark), Captain America (Steve Rogers), Hulk (Bruce Banner), Black Panther (T’Challa), Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff) and Thor. Together, the young Avengers strive to be their best selves while facing off against classic Super Baddies.” Sean Coyle, Bart Jennett and Harrison Wilcox serving as Executive Producers. Spidey and his Amazing Friends will also bring forth two new special episodes, with the first one set to premiere later in October, and the next one in 2026, which is supposed to be Halloween-themed. The first one is about Iron Man and the Avengers joining Spidey to stop Ultron and Green Goblin from taking control of the city’s devices. Titled “Marvel’s Spidey and Iron Man: Avengers Team Up!”, this special premieres on October 16 of this year, and would be our first look at how the Avengers team will work in this format.
Adapting the Avengers for a pre-school audience is kind of a weird idea, but as long as it keeps the brand popular and doesn’t prevent other “all-ages” stories with these characters from being produced, things should be alright. Spidey and his Amazing Friends debuted in 2021 and turned out to be a pretty big success, at least with its target audience, but also perhaps with slightly older fans as well. Spidey has been renewed through season 6 already, while currently season 4 is premiering new episodes. It remains to be seen just how popular the Iron Man, and this new Avengers cartoons will be, but it’s likely they will last a couple of seasons each. It should also be fun seeing what other Marvel characters will pop up on the shows, as they play out.
Stay tuned for further updates.
