Earlier this summer, one of the highlights of the PlayStation “State of Play” was the reveal of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, a game gathering all of the early Mortal Kombat titles (from the 90’s and early 2000’s) into one collection. Now, with the arrival of Evo (the yearly fighting game tournament), studio “Digital Eclipse” and publisher “Atari” have revealed new content being added to the collection, along with a release date for the physical edition.
The latest addition to the collection is “Mortal Kombat Trilogy”, originally released on the PlayStation and the Nintendo 64 (though Digital Eclipse representatives at Evo later confirmed it’s the PS1 version being included here). They also confirmed a physical version is arriving December 12th, but strongly hinted at a digital version arriving earlier.
Here’s the trailer:
So just to review, the official list of games in this bundle is as follows:
Besides a “Standard Edition” (starting at $49.99), Publisher Atari also revealed there would also be revealed there would be more “enhanced” editions, including a Deluxe Edition and a Kollector’s Edition from Limited Run Games. The game will also come with a documentary, which will feature (per Digital Eclipse’s website), “exclusive interviews, rare concept art, vintage marketing materials, and archival video footage”.
Though there are hopes for more games from the early 2000’s to be added, “Mortal Kombat 4” may be the cut off point, as the 5th game (Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance) was the start of Mortal Kombat not having an arcade launch first. Instead, “Deadly Alliance” (released in 2002 on Xbox, PS2 and GameCube) was the start of Mortal Kombat focusing more on home console releases.
“Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection” is coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and PC (via Steam). Stay tuned for further updates in the weeks ahead!
