“Digimon Beatbreak” Announced for October 5, 2025 Premiere in Japan

The newest installment of the Digimon anime has been given a trailer and launch date. August 1st is referred to as Odaiba Day or Digiday and connected to the date when the Digidestined were sucked into the Digiworld at summer camp. At 8:01 on 8/01, a trailer was released promoting a new TV series. This series will be called Digimon Beatbreak. Appearing characters and cast in Breakbeat include digital monsters Gekkomon (Megumi Han), Pristimon (Mutsumi Tamura), Chiropmon (Misaki Kuno), and Murasamemon (Daiki Hamano). They will be accompanied by human characters Tomoro Tenma (Miyu Irono), Reina Sakuya (Tomoyo Kurosawa), Makoto Kuonji (Arisa Sekine), and Kyo Sawashiro (Yohei Azakami).

News on a western release remains unknown. However it is now known that October 5, 2025 will be the premiere of the Japanese broadcast on Fuji TV. The new series will be directed by Hiroaki Miyamoto. Beatbreak is being written by Ryota Namaguchi. Arisa Okehazama is composing the soundtrack. Past Digimon series have received subbed releases on Crunchyroll, but dubs have gradually shifted to only being done for Digimon Adventure anime stories such as the films featuring the adult Digidestined, Tri, Last Adventure Kizuna, and 02 Beginnings, due to the continued popularity of the early characters.

The first two seasons, Adventure and 02 were set in the same timeline. They introduced the groundwork for later series and numerous films which were incorporated into a single film for American release. The original Digimon dub aired with a Saban dub on Fox Kids in the late 1990s and early 2000s. During Fox Kids’ airing of the rebooted third season, Digimon Tamers, Saban was purchased by Disney.

After 4Kids took Fox’s Saturday morning block and Fox Kids became Fox Box, Tamers reruns moved to UPN. UPN then began airing a new season called Digimon Frontier. This season was controversial for de-emphasizing partner Digimon, and less well regarded than its dark predecessor Tamers by the writer Chiaki Konaka, who also wrote cult classic cyberpunk anime Serial Experiments Lain and Texhnolyze.

The fifth season, Digimon Savers, aired on Toon Disney’s Jetix block. Renamed Data Squad for the dub, it continued airing on Disney XD’s early days after Toon Disney rebranded. Like Frontier, Savers received mixed results. Disney eventually dropped the Digimon IP after having Jetix premiere several Digimon movies: Revenge of Diaboromon, Battle of Adventurers, and Runaway Locomon.

Saban retook control of Digimon dubbing during the 2010s with a new series Xros Wars, known as Digimon Fusion in the dub. Saban was able to regain control of a Saturday morning by creating Vortexx for the CW. The first season of Fusion aired on Saturday mornings after its premiere on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons. A second Fusion season, known in Japan as the Evil Death Generals and the Seven Kings, also aired on Nicktoons.

Digimon’s consistent releases in the US began to fade as Fusion’s run on Nicktoons came to a close. The next series, the Boy Hunters Who Leapt Through Time remained sub only streaming on Crunchyroll as Saban ceased dubbing the series. The following series, App Monsters, was never given an English dub either, receiving a sub only release on Crunchyroll. A rebooted 2020s Digimon Adventure TV series received a dub direct to streaming and featured new voice actors. Ghost Game was the most recent installment prior to Breakbeat, once again released direct to streaming with no currently available dub. While a dub of Ghost Game has been announced in 2023, it has yet to debut, and a US release is still uncertain.

Several video games have been skipped over for US releases as well. Digimon has struggled to compete with the popularity of long term rival Pokemon outside of Japan.

Do you think Digimon Beatbreak will reach the United States to revitalize interest in this classic franchise?
