You want more Critical Role cartoons? You got ’em. The Legend of Vox Machina, originating from humble Kickstarter beginnings, has grown into such a hit for Amazon Prime that they’re expanding the Exandrian universe. The second major campaign for the liveplay team, The Mighty Nein, is getting its own animated series this fall and the full cast and designs were just revealed at SDCC.
The Mighty Nein is set in the same world as Vox Machina, just twenty years later. The series follows a group of fugitives and outcasts, not unlike the original seven, who all have their own secret pasts and baggage to deal with. “But when a powerful arcane relic known as The Beacon falls into dangerous hands, they must learn to work together to save the realm and stop reality itself from unraveling,” says Amazon.
The main cast is naturally the same, as it will be here. Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien, Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel and Travis Willingham will all play new characters. The guest cast includes several Disney Legends (Ming-na Wen, Anika Noni Rose, Auli’i Cravalho), Alan Cumming, Mark Strong, and Jonathan Frakes. And Tim McGraw.
The Mighty Nein premieres on Amazon Prime November 19. Have a clip:
As for The Legend of Vox Machina, it’s just been granted another season, on top of the one that won’t premiere until 2026. But Amazon and CR say Season 5 will be its last…mainly because they’ll be out of story to adapt at that point. Have another clip:
