Yesterday, Electronic Arts released the first trailer for “Battlefield 6”, the latest game in their military first-person shooter franchise that was once a formidable rival to Activision’s “Call of Duty” franchise. EA has revealed the story will be a modern day campaign in the style of “Battlefield 3 / Battlefield 4” (a good idea, as that’s largely regarded by the fanbase as when the franchise was at it’s strongest).
The last Battlefield game, “Battlefield 2042” (a near future/sci-fi twist on the franchise), had a disastrous launch back in 2021. The game didn’t have a single-player campaign, and the multi-player mode launched to numerous bugs and glitches, alongside missing features that hurt the game’s community investment. Player count quickly dropped off, and EA later confirmed the game did not meet their sales expectations.
Battlefield 6 has a solo-campaign primarily being worked on by Motive Studio (the developer of the popular “Dead Space” remake in 2023) whereas the multi-player mode is being primarily spearheaded by DICE Studios (known for their work on EA’s “Star Wars: Battlefront” games and the aformentioned Battlefield 2042).
Here’s EA’s official description of the new trailer:
“The trailer offers a first look at Pax Armata, a Private Military Corporation bankrolled by former NATO states whose agenda threatens to throw the world into global conflict. This sets the scene for what players can expect on the battlefield — both in multiplayer and the return of the series’ single player campaign.
In Battlefield 6, the series’ incredible blend of visceral combat, epic warfare, and player freedom returns. Blow through walls and bring down buildings for a tactical advantage or take to the skies in white-knuckle dogfights. Take part in a war filled with tanks, fighter jets, and sweeping combat at a grand scale but remember: the deadliest weapon is your squad.”
Here’s the trailer:
Battlefield 6 still doesn’t have a release date yet. Instead, next up, EA has announced a trailer for Battlefield 6’s multiplayer mode is coming July 31st (next week). Perhaps they will reveal the release date for the game at that time, but there is speculation as to whether EA would attempt to release the game this Fall (to compete with Activision’s yearly “Call of Duty” offering) or if they’ll release it in the first half of next year.
This year’s “Call of Duty” is rumoured to be another installment in the “Black Ops” line of games (COD’s most popular sub-genre, following last year’s highly successful “Black Ops 6”), so it’ll be impressive if EA decides to take it head-on this Fall. Many fans are requesting on Twitter that EA keeps Battlefield in a more grounded (realistic) atmosphere, as a source of irritation among Call of Duty fans is the increase use of licensed characters in the multiplayer mode (with recent additions being “Beavis and Butthead” and “Jay and Silent Bob” as playable skins).
Ok this was good. So going forward, no laser guns, no anime girls, no weed/bong skins no zombie skins lets lock tf in on BATTLEFIELD. EA, DICE, LOCK IN!
WE GOT NOW. https://t.co/gwouiSQxuL
