What does Thor, God Of Thunder really have to be afraid of? God-butchers, maybe, but the only one of those was slain by him already. What makes him so worried in the Avengers Doomsday teaser put out by Marvel Studios today? Well, he’s a dad now…and that comes with a LOT of anxieties.
Thor’s last film, Love And Thunder, ended with the title character adopting the subtitle character…Gorr’s daughter Love. Now that Thor’s found Love, he doesn’t want to let her go. So he’s kneeling in the woods praying for favor to be on his side in the coming battle. “Lend me the strength of the All-Fathers so that I may fight once more,” he says, “defeat one more enemy, and return home to her, not as a warrior but as warmth, to teach her not battle, but stillness — the kind I never knew.”
Marvel plans to release four teasers in all, one per week, that are a lot like this one. So far we have Steve Rogers (last week) and Thor (this week). We’d say the other two are unknown but they really aren’t. They leaked a while ago, and one’s about the X-Men.
We mean the 20th Century Fox-Men, who are now part of Disney. Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as the Beast and Channing Tatum as Gambit are all confirmed.
They join an already immense cast of heroes that includes everyone in this massive block of text: Chris Pine as Steve Rogers, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as White Widow, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.
Avengers Doomsday will be released about a year from now, on December 18, 2026.
