Hey Now, You’ve Got New Shrek 5 Casting News

The last time we heard anything about Shrek 5 was in February, when it was revealed Zendaya was joining the cast as the voice of Shrek’s daughter Felicia, now grown into her teenage years. Felicia has two other siblings, and Dreamworks is taking its sweet time revealing who they are…because the movie won’t be here anytime soon. Originally announced for 2026, it has been delayed an entire year into 2027.

So nine months later, they’ve finally gotten around to revealing the real-world identities of those boys: Skyler Gisondo, who you might know best as Jimmy Olsen in the most recent Superman movie, and Marcello Hernández, who has appeared on SNL and Netflix’s Happy Gilmore 2. The source did not identify which actor was playing which prepubescent ogre, but it’s implied by the order they’re listed in that Hernández is Fergus and Gisondo is Farkle.

Shrek 5 will be directed by Conrad Vernon, who also directed Shrek 2, but has been involved with every Shrek in a sense, even the holiday specials: he’s the voice of Gingerbread Man. The movie will be co-directed by Walt Dohrn, who worked as writer and artist on the second and third Shreks, became head of story on the fourth, and has now received another promotion. Like Vernon, he also plays somebody, though only for one of the movies (Rumpelstilskin).

There’s some cross-pollination with Universal’s other cartoon studio, Illumination, because studio CEO Chris Meledandri is one of Shrek ‘s producers, and there’s actually a third co-director in Brad Ableson (Minions: The Rise of Gru). Co-producing is Gina Shay.

Little is known about the plot all these writers and directors are cooking for Shrek 5 – actually, nothing is known about it — but actors Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz will all reprise their characters. Shrek 5 will be released June 30, 2027, barring any further delays.
