Swat Kats: The Radical Squadron, the Hanna-Barbera cartoon that was one of Cartoon Network’s earliest hits, has remained dormant for decades. Those who figured they’d never see Razor and T-Bone again will want to hear this…the original creators, the Tremblay Bros, are teaming up with Roditeli Productions to launch a crowdfunded comic book continuation.
It’s been 32 years since the Kats last had a public adventure, but in Megakat City, only one year has passed. That was, apparently, enough time for Hard Drive and the Dark Kats to completely take over the city. Yep, this comic opens with a scenario where the bad guys WIN. With all the resources the Dark Kats now have at their disposal, Razor and T-Bone are currently no match. But even though they’re facing their greatest challenge ever, they won’t stop fighting…

The Trremblays will oversee production of the 40-page first story, co-written by Kevin Roditeli (X-O Manowar, Bad Omens) and Frank J. Barbiere (Avengers World, Author Immortal), and script edited by Joseph Illidge (Legendary Batman Editor). Jorge Corona (Transformers, Batgirls, Lobo) is handling the pencil and ink and Sarah Stern (Batgirls, Captain America) is providing the colors. The Kickstarter version of this issue will be in hardcover and contain dozens of pages of extras, including interviews and behind-the-scenes stories.
The Swat Kats campaign has been wildly successful — Roditeli only asked for $40,000 and they’ve received over half a million as of this post. That’s allowed the team to cram in a crazy amount of fulfilled stretch goals including posters, stickers, a T-shirt, two bonus stories, a Callie pin designed by Mirka Andolfo, and even a 3-D version of the same comic (complete with glasses). Blowing past $500,000 allowed them to start work on a video motion comic of the issue, with voice actors Charlie Adler and Barry Gordon returning to voice their characters.
You can find the Kickstarter campaign for Swat Kats rather easily on the website. But just three days remain and you’ve only got until November 29 to make a pledge.
