Toonami has released their latest schedule update for July 19. In a surprise move, they have doubled up Dragon Ball Daima at midnight, with a number of other changes later in the night as well.
At 12:00 AM, Dragon Ball Daima takes Lazarus’ midnight slot. With Lazarus having ended last weekend, only to be followed by two weeks of marathons coming on the 5th for Superman and 12th for Lazarus, the midnight replacement has been the most anticipated change of July.
At 12:30 AM, Dragon Ball Daima continues in its current slot, now receiving a full hour timeslot. It remains to be seen how long they plan to keep Daima doubled up, as the schedules for the 26th onwards remain unknown.
At 1:00 AM, Bleach: The Thousand Year Blood War is halfway through its first season. Many were expecting Bleach to move up to the midnight hour with Lazarus gone, but Bleach retains the 1:00 AM slot it has occupied since Daima first replaced it at 12:30 AM.
At 1:30 AM, Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga continues its run. While Blue Exorcist also formerly occupied the 12:30 AM slot in its season 1 rerun, it has gradually moved later to night. It retains the 1:30 AM slot it has occupied since Daima arrived.
At 2:00 AM, One Piece continues to wrap up the aftermath of the Dressrosa saga. With Doflamingo defeated, One Piece has gone back from two episodes to one. Since One Piece is the most doubled up show in Adult Swim Toonami history, it is notable Daima was chosen for double episodes, while One Piece retains only the one late 2:00 AM slot it has held since Daima arrived.
At 2:30, the Japanese language version of Lazarus begins a weekly run. This will be the second airing of the subtitled version, which debuts on the July 12 marathon from 12:00-5:30 AM. This slot was previously occupied by Naruto.
At 3:00 AM Naruto moves down a half hour, replacing Sailor Moon as the block’s new closer. The Chunin Exams written test will wrap up on the 19th, clearing the way for the more action packed Forest of Death sequence on following weeks. Sailor Moon had occupied the 3:00 AM slot after the cancellation of Rewind, but it now joins Dragon Ball Kai as a suddenly dropped Toonami Rewind rescue. Naruto remains the only remnant of the short lived Friday night Toonami nostalgia block.
Were you surprised to see Dragon Ball Daima instead of a new original or license at midnight?
