Dan Da Dan premiered its first two seasons at breakneck speed, shipping both of them out within a year’s time. It’s likely that both were produced at once. If you got the sense Season 3 was going to take a bit longer, your senses were accurate: Crunchyroll confirmed over the weekend that it will not arrive in 2026.

Instead you’ll have to wait until 2027, they announced at the Dan Da Dan Jump Festa panel. When in 2027? No one knows, but hopefully within the first quarter. Science SARU, the animation studio who brought the first two seasons to life, will also animate the third. Also, in tangentially related news, Toonami has hinted it will run the second season sometime in 2026.

So far, the Dan Da Dan anime has adapted one-third of the existing manga, and of course the backlog will be greater by 2027. Season 2 was focused on Evil Eye, the demented ghost possessing the body of Momo’s childhood friend Jiji. Evil Eye started as a serious and grim threat before gradually becoming more comedic over the course of the season. In a very Ranma-inspired twist, it was discovered cold water will bring out Evil Eye and warm water will turn Jiji back to normal. Also, due to an arrangement with Okarun, he is now only allowed to fight every other Tuesday.

The over-the-top season finale that aired in September saw a giant kaiju attacking the city. In response Momo reshaped her grandma’s moldable house into a giant robot that she and her friends could pilot. After many complications, the kaiju finally fell and shrank, and when they dragged it home they discovered a zipper…and an alien girl within the suit.

And what’s the first thing this alien girl did? Jump up and kiss Okarun immediately, square on the lips! Momo, bearing full eyewitness to this event, dropped her jaw to the ground, and still had mental control of the house, which spontaneously exploded.

There are two ways to find out what happens next: wait over twelve months for Season 3, or become a reader of the manga (and spoil Season 3). I leave that difficult choice in your hands.
