If you assumed She-Ra and the Princesses of Power would remain on Netflix forever due to the fact that the streamer paid to have it made, think again. Turns out you’ve got until February 21 to rewatch that show, or discover it for the first time, before it leaves. …But how could it just leave?

This is kind of left-field, but a list was published today of over 100 TV shows, specials and movies that debuted on Netflix as original content…yet are scheduled to leave sometime in 2026. And it’s not a “tax writeoff” situation — this isn’t something Netflix is doing voluntarily.

Well, it’s KIND of voluntary. These are situations where Netflix doesn’t own the entirety of the show or concepts therein outright. There were licensing deals in the mix, like with Dreamworks and Mattel for She-Ra. Dreamworks made the show, Mattel holds the IP, Netflix paid for the production and exclusivity. Those deals had a time limit, at which point they would have to be either renewed or face expiration. Netflix may be electing to let them expire.

This looming expiration also affects Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts (June 26), and other Dreamworks content like Boss Baby: Back In Business (November 17), multiple Captain Underpants shows and specials (January 9), and four different Dragons shows that all expire November 24. The majority of lost animated content seems to be from Dreamworks.

The big question is where any of this goes from here. Unlike a writeoff, these shows are free to go wherever they want. They could wind up back under their parent company as part of the Peacock library. They could be placed on Tubi. They could strike a different deal with another paid streamer. No one knows just yet.

But the animated shows are a small fraction of the overall content loss at Netflix, which again, it paid to have made. The two N-exclusive seasons of Arrested Development will become 100% property of 20th Century / Disney on March 15. Warner Bros could yank back Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life on November 25, assuming Netflix and WB aren’t the same thing at that point.

What this all means is that some of your favorite Netflix shows may not be as safe as you thought. Wednesday is one of the streamer’s top shows right now, but Wednesday Addams is not their IP, and there could actually come a day, far distant but inevitable, when that show is streaming somewhere else.
