Splinter Cell Deathwatch: Second Season Confirmed

Mere hours after the latest animated adaption of a classic video game, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, premiered on Netflix, the streamer announced a renewal for a second season. A nice poster was released featuring protagonist Sam Fisher and his partner in crime wearing Sam’s famous night vision goggles and aiming their pistols amidst a lot of lasers.

The timing on this definitely has us suspicious that Splinter Cell: Deathwatch had a two-season order and Netflix just won’t admit that. Every other cartoon they’ve debuted lately has been granted another season in quick succession, but they usually waited until about a week or so before making that announcement. We have no real word from the inside, but we’re confident this “renewal” would have happened no matter what the numbers were…because this time, there haven’t been many numbers yet!

Splinter Cell: Deathwatch is based on the stealth shooters by Ubisoft that had their heyday in the 2000s on consoles like the Playstation 2 and original XBox. In the first season, Sam Fisher has grown a gray beard and removed himself from the spy game, but he’s pulled back into action when he meets an operative with a watch that contains blueprints for a dangerous weapon. A classic spy movie MacGuffin, and of course every bad guy can’t do a thing without it and wants to obtain it.

Now both Fisher and the operative, whose exotic name is Zinnia McKenna, must cross the globe to piece the mystery together, shoot a lot of targets and save the world. It turns out the watch is connected to tech company Xanadu, and their CEO is Diana Shetland — the daughter of Sam’s old frenemy Douglas. How deep does it go?

If similar shows of the recent past are any indication, we could be seeing the second season of Splinter Cell: Deathwatch about a year after the first. And at that point, we’ll know if the series is going to receive a real renewal or not.
