Lackadaisy IS Getting A Full Animated Series from Glitch Productions

The indie cartoon Lackadaisy is getting a full series, thanks to Glitch Productions. A pilot for Lackadaisy was released in March 2023 and has currently racked up 17 million views on YouTube. Lackadaisy is going to be part of the new “Glitch Presents’’ label, where Glitch will produce series that started outside the Glitch banner. Series like “The Amazing Digital Circus” and “Knights of Guinevere” that have been shows that have been produced in-house from Glitch from the start, will be under the banner of “Glitch Originals’’. Glitch Productions has become one of the biggest producers of indie animation in the industry, with series like “The Amazing Digital Circus” getting hundreds of millions of views on YouTube.

Lackadaisy started off as a web comic that started in 2006, created by Tracy J. Butler and Fable Siegel, who are part of the team producing this cartoon series. Glitch has also brought on Olan Rogers (creator of Final Space) as Development Executive for the series. Lackadaisy is a series set in probation-era America, but all the characters are anthropomorphic cats. Despite the cute character designs, these characters are engaged in the type of criminal rivalries you should expect from booze runners in the prohibition era. The pilot featured voice actors like Michael Kovach as Rocky, Belsheber Rusape as Freckle, Lisa Reimold as Ivy Pepper and SungWon Cho as Mordecai Heller. Glitch Productions CEO Kevin Lerdwichagul said this of the upcoming series:

“I’m beyond thrilled to announce that Glitch is officially partnering with the insanely talented folks behind Lackadaisy to bring you the full animated series! I’ve been talking with Tracy and Fable since the pilot and their BackerKit launch, and I’ve seen firsthand the passion and effort they’ve been pouring into this show. Watching it all take shape has been incredible — and when I realized there was a chance for Glitch to help expand their planned 5 x 11-minute episodes into 6 x full 22-minute episodes, closer to Tracy’s original vision, I reached out immediately. They didn’t hesitate. They said yes.

To make this happen, we brought on Olan Rogers (creator of Final Space) as a development executive (he’s awesome, b.t.w.) and partnered with an external partner to fully fund the season. Most importantly, we made sure Tracy and Fable keep full creative control of their vision. Projects created this way will now live under our brand-new banner, Glitch Presents — a label for shows we partner on and help bring to life in this challenging industry. There’s still a long road ahead as the team works to deliver the incredible quality Lackadaisy is known for, and Glitch will be with them every step of the way, making sure the series lives up to the love fans already have, and proving once again that indie animation is the future.”

Bulter said this of the upcoming series:

“It’s a new and amazing time for indie animation to shine, and we’re so honored to be a part of it. The team has worked incredibly hard, and I couldn’t be prouder of them, but we wouldn’t be anywhere without your viewership, your enthusiasm and support. Thank you to Glitch and thank you so much for watching!”

The Lackadaisy YouTube channel released a video celebrating the series right as this deal was announced, featuring a new song: “Last Call’’.

Glitch Productions will be making 6 22-minute episodes that will constitute the first full season. This series will likely be released on Glitch’s YouTube channel, but Glitch has recently partnered with Amazon Prime Video to distribute some of their works, so we see it there as well.
