The Bat-Fam Formally Introduces Themselves

Last month around this time, Amazon Prime released a flurry of screenshots revealing the cast of their upcoming cartoon, Bat-Fam. It’s another one of those shows WB produced but doesn’t want, because HBO Max doesn’t “do” family cartoons anymore. Their loss is Prime’s gain. A full trailer was released today during the Bat-Fam panel at NYCC.

We were first introduced to this off-kilter take on the Bat-mythos with “Merry Little Batman,” a holiday special where Damian Wayne had to take on the role of the Dark Knight and save Christmas after his superhero dad fell into some trouble. Luke Wilson played Bruce Wayne, Yonas Kibreab voiced Damian and James Cromwell was Alfred.

They’re all back for Bat-Fam, and they’re not alone, because it wouldn’t be a family without…

  • Volcana! First introduced in a Superman TAS episode back in 1998, here she had an accident with a Lazarus Pit that turned her into a grumpy frizzy-haired 12-year-old girl. But you can call her Claire now.
  • Alicia Pennyworth! Alfred’s grand-niece, named and inspired deliberately from Alicia Silverstone in THAT movie.
  • Ra’s Al Ghul! Now literally a ghoul after “a magical mishap” turned him into a ghost. Ra’s is Damian’s grandfather, so he floats around and tries to give Damian unsolicited advice while constantly ranting that he should be in charge of everything.
  • Man-Bat! A slacker who mooches off the luxuries of Wayne Manor and spends most of his time playing video games. Why’s he here? Why does Bruce allow this? Mysteries!

In addition to Wilson, Kibreab and Cromwell, Bat-Fam stars the voices of Haley Tju as Claire, London Hughes as Alicia Pennyworth, Michael Benyaer as Ra’s Al Ghul, and Bobby Moynihan as Man-Bat, along with guest voices Reid Scott, Kevin Michael Richardson, Diedrich Bader and Natasha Leggero.

Bat-Fam was developed by executive producer and showrunner Mike Roth and executive producer Jase Ricci. Sam Register serves as executive producer. Join the fam starting November 10 on Amazon Prime.
