At this year’s New York Comic Con, Marvel held a “Spider-Man and his Venomous Friends” panel, in which they revealed the next big Spider-Man crossover event: “Death Spiral”, a comic storyline bouncing between issues of Amazing Spider-Man and Venom. “Death Spiral” will be written by Joe Kelly, Al Ewing, and Charles Soule, with artwork by Ed McGuinness, Carlos Gomez, and Jesus Saiz.
The last year or two has seen major shakeups in the world of symbiotes, with Mary Jane Watson becoming the new host for Venom, while Eddie Brock has become the new host for Carnage. Meanwhile, Spider-Man’s turned into a cosmic superhero and has spent the last few months in outer space (in Joe Kelly’s run on Amazing Spider-Man). The upcoming storyline is the first time for all 3 “heroes” to come together.
The storyline kicks off with a “Death Spiral” one-shot titled, releasing in February 2026. Here’s the solicitation text for the comic:

DEATH SPIRAL – PART ONE! The next epic SPIDER-MAN and VENOM crossover starts here, spinning out of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, VENOM, and EDDIE BROCK: CARNAGE from February to April! A new super powered serial killer is on the loose and they’re coming for Spidey, Venom and everyone in between. But what terrible secret has CARNAGE learned and what does it have to do with Spider-Man?! Don’t miss the next chapters of this spiders and symbiotes saga in the pages of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and VENOM!”
Long time Spider-Man fans know that Venom used to be more tied to Spider-Man corner of the Marvel universe, with the focus being on Eddie Brock’s personal animosity towards Peter Parker (as Eddie blamed Peter and Spider-Man for losing his job as a reporter). Since 2018 though, with Sony’s big push to make Venom a star character (seperate from an origin tied to Peter Parker), the Venom comics have gone from “vengeful supervillain turned anti-hero” to “cosmic horror” (with the fleshing out of the Venom symbiote’s background, including the introduction of “Knull”, a Dark God of the symbiotes).
This crossover provides a fresh chance to reintegrate the symbiotes back into Spider-Man’s corner of the universe. At the panel, Nick Spencer (Editor for the Spider-Man line of comics) hinted at the plot: “One of the wildest times in Spider and Symbiote history revs into high gear with this killer crossover! Not only will readers get to witness Peter Parker learn that his long time love Mary Jane Watson is bonded with one of his greatest nemeses, but both learn that Eddie Brock has paired with the baddest symbiote ever, Carnage. They’ll all be even more horrified when they face a scarier villain—TORMENT! No one is safe.”
The Spider-Man/Symbiote crossover will run in the pages of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #23-27 and VENOM #255-257, starting this February with “Amazing Spider-Man: Death Spiral #1”.
