A little while ago, we reported that Trigun Stargaze will arrive on Crunchyroll sometime in 2026. Now we know the exact month. It is coming January, which is shaping to be a very crowded month. The series will have to compete with Jujutsu Kaisen: The Culling Game, Frieren season 2, and Hell’s Paradise season 2. Winter 2026 looks to be absolutely stacked, but there is still the question of what awaits fans for the other four seasons of 2026. Anyway, here is the trailer:
As fans can see, this trailer revealed that characters from the 1998 Trigun anime will return here. Probably the character fans will be most excited to see is Milly, Meryl’s iconic very tall partner. Also appearing are the Gung-Ho Guns, assassins assembled by Knives and led by Legato in the 1998 anime. It appears that this season will tell an alternate reimagining of Vash’s battle with the Gung-Ho Guns.
The two seasons of the Trigun reboot, Trigun Stampede and Trigun Stargaze, are a reimagining of the franchise that is different from both the original manga and the 1998 anime adaptation. The first season of the reboot, Trigun Stampede came out in 2023 to much fan acclaim. The reboot features eye popping CGI animation from Studio Orange, generally considered Japan’s best CGI studio.
For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Trigun is a space Western story about Vash the Stampede, a gunslinger famous for his refusal to kill and his reliance on trick shots. He is known as the Humanoid Typhoon and is a wanted man. The villains Knives and Legato are his main enemies. The franchise is known for its over the top action and philosophizing on the morality of Vash and his his refusal to kill. The first season of the reboot seemed to focus more on the former action aspect than the philosophizing and angst featured in the 1998 anime, but maybe Stargaze will bring that aspect of the series back to the forefront with the very entity from the 1998 anime that spearheaded the 1998’s turn into a dark drama, the Gung-Ho Guns.
Trigun Stampede was a significant hit and Trigun Stargaze has already gained lots of hype with the promise of iconic characters from the franchise making a reappearance.
