Will Forte has become not just a common face of live-action TV comedy, but the drawn form as well. Ever since his toon debut as Abe Lincoln on the original Clone High, his distinctive voice has been heard in all sorts of animated projects. Currently he’s Tobin in Fox’s The Great North, but soon he’ll also be the center of the Netflix series Haunted Hotel.
The adult comedy’s premise is that a single mother of two has inherited an old hotel and has to keep it running…which is even more difficult than someone with her busy schedule would normally find it to be. For you see, the hotel is haunted.
Her brother used to run the place, and she hasn’t talked much with him in years, but they’ll have plenty of time to catch up now — because he’s a ghost too. She and her kids are kind of rattled by the spooky inhabitants of the place, but he’s become friends with a lot of them and thinks they have some good ideas. Of course a ghost’s definition of “good idea” is seldom shared by a living human.
Forte plays the role of the brother, while Eliza Coupe (Happy Endings, Future Man), Skyler Gisondo (The Righteous Gemstones, Fairfax), Natalie Palamides (Duncanville, The Powerpuff Girls) and Emmy nominee Jimmi Simpson (Westworld, Star Trek: Prodigy) have the other roles. Netflix hasn’t specified who’s playing who, or the characters’ names, but by the design alone you can tell Forte’s the brother.
Haunted Hotel was created by Matt Roller, who has previously served as story editor on Rick and Morty and co-exec producer on Krapopolis. Speaking of Dan Harmon, he’s involved here too, as one of the executive producers — Chris McKenna, Steve Levy and Roller are the others. Erica Hayes (Rick and Morty) is the supervising director. Titmouse is providing animation production with Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio and Ben Kalina acting as executive producers on that end.
The first season of Haunted Hotel will premiere on Netflix September 19.
