The Second Best Hospital In The Galaxy Returns May 27

The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy

Amazon Prime has announced a second season of their adult animated comedy The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy is on a collision course with Earth and will make impact by the end of the month.

And yes, I said second season. If you didn’t know there was a first season, neither did I, but there’s apparently been a sci-fi cartoon with the voices of Natasha Lyonne and Maya Rudolph in it all this time. And despite the complete lack of attention, it’s managed to land a second chance.

The premise of The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy is that Dr. Sleech and Dr. Klak, two alien surgeons at the top of their field, frequently risk everything to take on the most dangerous cases in the universe. Stephanie Hsu and Keke Palmer play the lead characters. Have a look:

The full cast list is pretty stacked for something so obscure: Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Keke Palmer (One of Them Days), Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain), Sam Smith (Spectre), Maya Rudolph (Loot), Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face), Abbi Jacobson (Broad City), Andrew Dismukes (Saturday Night Live), Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live, Fire Island), Gary Anthony Williams (Night Court), Lennon Parham (Minx), Jay Ellis (Top Gun: Maverick), Kemah Bob (Springleaf), and John Waters (Hairspray).

The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy was created by Cirocco Dunlap, who serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer, alongside Executive Producers Rudolph, Danielle Renfrew Behrens, and Lyonne for Animal Pictures. It’s a Titmouse production with Shauna McGarry, Shannon Prynoski, Chris Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina as executive producers from the studio. Artist and animator Robin Eisenberg co-produces and serves as production designer.

Since I haven’t seen this show, and neither have you, I don’t want to cast any judgment on it. We might have been passing up something good! Only one way to know for sure. The first season of The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy is streamable now on Amazon Prime and all eight episodes of the second season arrive May 27.
