King Of The Hill Revival Given August 4 Premiere Date

Today Hulu revealed the main title sequence for the King of the Hill revival and, at last, a release date. It’s an upgrade to the poster we got two weeks ago revealing the new, slightly older Hank Hill and his drinking buddies. (Still waiting on that full trailer. They’re really dishing this out slowly.)

Are there surprises hidden in this main title? Quite a few. You see, this new opener is a time lapse sequence, like the original, but instead of depicting the events of a few hours, it shows the events of the last few YEARS. If you slow down the footage you can see Bobby growing older, the Hills MOVING AWAY (more on this in a minute), Bill, Dale and Boomhauer drinking with their new neighbor, Bill coughing, everyone in face masks (Dale is of course wearing his wrong)…

…Boomhauer meeting what appears to be his new wife and son, Dale and a grown Joseph putting up signs announcing Dale is running for mayor, more signs, and finally, Hank and Peggy returning in a taxi and yanking Dale’s sign off their front lawn. The sign now serves the purpose of the trash bag as it says “Created By Mike Judge And Greg Daniels” on it. Also, in between all this, the only time we see Nancy is when she leaves in John Redcorn’s car, possibly hinting at a divorce there.

The official synopsis for the season, released alongside the trailer, fills in a few of these blanks: “After years working a propane job in Saudi Arabia to earn their retirement nest egg, Hank and Peggy Hill return to a changed Arlen, Texas to reconnect with old friends Dale, Boomhauer and Bill. Meanwhile, Bobby is living his dream as a chef in Dallas and enjoying his 20s with his former classmates Connie, Joseph and Chane.”

Who’s Chane? Is Dale really divorced? IS he MAYOR? We now have even more questions than we did before.

The revival is expected to retain the same cast, except in those situations where it’s impossible. Mike Judge is Hank Hill and Boomhauer, Kathy Najim is Peggy, Stephen Root is Bill Dauterive, Pamela Adlon is Bobby Hill, and Lauren Tom is Minh and Connie Souphanousinphone. Kahn is yet to be revealed, as he can’t be played by a white man anymore.

We also have yet to find out who’s replacing Johnny Hardwick, who recorded Dale Gribble for the first two episodes before passing away in August of 2023. The characters of Luanne Platter and Lucky have probably been retired — there’s no replacing Brittany Murphy or Tom Petty.

King of the Hill returns with new episodes on Hulu August 4.
