“Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush” Coming To Disney XD January 11

The latest installment in the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise is making its long awaited English language debut on Disney XD this Saturday, January 11 at 7 am Eastern. Yu-Gi-Oh Go Rush is replacing Yu-Gi-Oh Sevens over a year after Sevens concluded its first run on Disney XD on December 2, 2023. Disney XD has long operated a small anime block on Saturday and Sunday mornings with the latest iterations of Beyblade, Bakugan, and Yu-Gi-Oh.

Here’s the trailer:

The plot of Yu-Gi-Oh Go Rush focuses around an alien named Yudias who comes in contact with twin alien investigators Yuhi and Yuamu. With the power of Rush Duels, Yudias believes he will bring peace to his warring Velgearian galaxy. Opposing him is his former comrade Zwijo, who wishes to use more forceful Rush Duel based methods to win the war decisively. Viewers of Yu-Gi-Oh Sevens will find connections between the previous series and Go Rush. Yuhi and Yuamu are both of the same Ohdo bloodline as main Sevens character Yuga. Many other Go Rush characters feature designs and names inspired by Sevens characters.

Yu-Gi-Oh Go Rush follows in the footsteps of Yu-Gi-Oh Sevens by featuring the simplified Rush Duel format rather than the Master Duel format used from the first series to VRAINS. However, Rush Duel cards have never made it outside of the Official Card Game, the version of Yu-Gi-Oh played in Japan and much of Asia. This left Sevens in the odd position of airing dubbed in countries where kids cannot buy the cards being advertised in the duels. Yu-Gi-Oh Go Rush will also be burdened with the lack of a physical card game, but Konami’s mobile game Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Links has added worlds for Sevens and Go Rush, where duelists can play a digital version of the Rush Duel card game.

Recent events suggest Go Rush to be the last weekly televised Yu-Gi-Oh anime. Konami’s Yu-Gi-Oh panel at Jump Festa, a Japanese Shonen Jump event which ordinarily announces a new Yu-Gi-Oh anime every three years, said nothing of a new TV series to replace Go Rush after its March conclusion. The only anime announcements of the panel were a remaster of Yu-Gi-Oh GX and a series of YouTube shorts set in the world of the cards. With Konami using their new in house animation studio to animate the YouTube shorts, Yu-Gi-Oh will be entering a new era after animation studios Toei, Gallop, and Bridge took turns animating series.

Stay tune, we’ll share if any new “Yu-Gi-Oh” is announced in the weeks or months ahead.
