Secret Level: The Big Trailer Is Here

With the arrival of the Big Fat Trailer for Secret Level, we finally have a solid idea of what a massive collaboration between Amazon Prime, the makers of Love, Death & Robots, and fifteen video game studios looks like.

One thing’s become clear: Amazon spent a lot on this one. Though styles vary and are for the most part faithful to the games they come from, most of the episodes are rendered in a high-def, photorealistic style that ventures into uncanny valley territory at times. It still remains to be seen how they’re going to do something as abstract as Pac-Man; once again there are barely any clips from it.

The voice cast didn’t come cheap either and includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Arnold’s son Patrick, Kevin Hart and his daughter Heaven, Keanu Reeves (John Wick), Ricky Whittle (American Gods), Emily Swallow (Star Wars), Temuera Morrison (Star Wars), Claudia Doumit (The Boys), Ariana Greenblatt (Barbie), Clive Standen (Vikings), Michael Beach (The Perfect Couple), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost), Gabriel Luna and Merle Dandridge (The Last of Us).

Each episode of Secret Level will be about a different game and the properties range from gazillion-dollar blockbusters to indie darlings. God of War, Sifu, Warhammer 40K, Unreal Tournament, New World: Aeternum, Dungeons & Dragons, The Outer Worlds 2, Pac-Man, Honor of Kings, Armored Core, Mega Man, Exodus, Spelunky, and Crossfire will all have their turn in the spotlight.

And yes, still Concord. Series creator Tim Miller (creator of Secret Level, not Concord) said to Rolling Stone that he doesn’t feel embarrassed a monument to the year’s biggest bomb is in his series. “I don’t feel bad that it’s a part of the show, because I think it’s an episode that turned out really well, and you can kind of see the potential of this world and the characters,” Miller says. “If it’s the remaining vestige of that product, I hope the developers feel that it’s in some way worthy, just a little bit, of the blood, sweat, and tears they put into it.”

Amazon MGM Studios and Blur Studio are producing Secret Level, with Dave Wilson serving as executive producer and supervising director. The first season of the series will be released on Amazon Prime December 10.
