Remember that exceptionally long wait for the second season of Invincible, which was finally semi-broken by a teaser trailer acknowledging the delay with a large amount of fourth-wall jokes? It just happened again.
This time however, there are two key differences: one, it’s Cecil Stedman Mark is meeting at the Burger Mart, not his friend, and two, the news he’s delivering is much more welcome. Not to Mark, but to us.
Stedman recaps the situation as we last left it: the evil alien race known as the Viltrumites now has Earth on their conquering list. They expect Mark to do this, since he’s half-Viltrumite and his father has been arrested. When two Viltrumites check up on Earth and discover Mark HASN’T taken it over, they kick the tar out of him and then say if he hasn’t finished the job by the time they come back, they’ll kill him and do it themselves.
Mark is not OK with the Viltrumites’ plans for Earth (contrary to the views of Marks in other dimensions) but in his current state, they’ll definitely be able to kill him. Stedman suggests (actually, he demands) Grayson start hitting the gym immediately.
While he’s at it, Stedman throws a jab at Amazon’s whole idea to break up what was already a small season into four-episode pieces that ran four months apart. “It was more like…three and a half,” Mark corrects sheepishly.
Finally Mark says he “needs to know when to show up” for this training and Stedman makes the reveal: Invincible Season 3 will start February 6 on Amazon Prime and there will be NO midseason break in between. We’ll get the whole thing, and at a much quicker pace than the wait for Season 2.
The story won’t stop there: a fourth season was confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year. Let’s hope Mark can bulk up in time to stop the Space Fascists from taking over. ‘Cause with a situation this pressing, you’ve gotta be…
