Dan Da Dan Is Back Da Back — The Trailer’s Out

We’re getting closer to the return of Dan Da Dan. Like its debut season, this new batch of episodes will premiere its first three as a theatrical event, subtitled Evil Eye. We finally get to see those eyes in the trailer released by Science SARU over the weekend. They certainly do look evil!

Dan Da Dan wrapped its first season on a cliffhanger where the deepening relationship between series protagonists Momo and Okarun was complicated by the arrival of Jiji, Momo’s childhood friend. Jiji needs a lot of help, and we’re not just talking about his off-putting energetic personality. His house is haunted, his parents are in the hospital, and he appears to be possessed by a powerful and evil yokai — that “Evil Eye” we were talking about.

When Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye is released on June 6, it will include the end of Season One just in case you forgot what happened, plus a bonus exclusive interview with series co-directors Fuga Yamashiro and Abel Gongora. GKIDS is distributing the movie in America. Both sub and dub versions will be screening and to prove it, here’s the English trailer:

But that’s not the only new trailer! A preview for the second season itself was released this morning. It not only contains scenes beyond what Evil Eye will show — the possessed Jiji is going to be a lot harder to handle than they thought — but reveals the new opening theme song, “On The Way” by J-Pop artist AiNA THE END.

“I really love Dan Da Dan, both the original manga and the first season of the anime series, and am so happy to have this opportunity,” gushes AiNA. “In ‘On The Way,’ I poured my heart into creating music that captures the bittersweet emotions of love while fighting and running to protect what is most important. The song also represents the feelings of Momo and Okarun, and I hope that it can serve as a source of encouragement for those who are feeling lost. I really love this song!”

A few days after Evil Eye opens, GKIDS plans to release the complete first season on Blu-Ray for the first time, in both Standard and Collector’s Edition packages. Bonus features include several interviews, a scene breakdown from the director, teasers and trailers, and the obligatory credit-less opening and closing sequences. Spring for the deluxe edition and you can add to this a 32-page book, art cards, and a die-cut sticker of Turbo Granny. That all comes out June 10.

But before that, the Evil Eye approaches — the second Dan Da Dan theatrical preview opens around the world June 6. The series itself is set to resume July 3.
