Hot Together: Rockstar Releases Big GTA VI Trailer

GTA VI

Up to now, there were only three things we knew about GTA VI: (1) it’s supposed to be the biggest video game in all of video games; (2) it’s going to heal the sick and control the weather; and (3) it will cost $15,000 a copy. No one knew when Rockstar was going to let anyone know more than that, but today was apparently the day.

The big trailer for the game was unexpectedly released this morning with no prior warning, not even the usual leak. It comes directly after their announcement that GTA VI will be moved nine months from the fall of 2025 to the summer of 2026. While that probably irritated fans, it made other video game publishers breathe a sigh of relief, as most of them were preparing to move the release dates of their own games to avoid directly competing with GTA VI. It’s that big.

The trailer is our first real look at the dual protagonists of the game, a Bonnie and Clyde couple whose passion for one another is only rivaled by their love of robberies and holdups. We’re introduced to Jason Duval, a bodybuilding Floridian — I mean, Leonidan — who’s taking a drive to the county jail to pick up his best girl, Lucia Caminos. It’s doubtful she will stay out of trouble for long. But if Rockstar’s description is correct, they’ll both soon be swept up in events bigger than they can handle:

Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida—forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.

Why is Grand Theft Auto VI so big? For one thing, even though there hasn’t been a new game in twelve years, the popularity of the series hasn’t diminished. It’s now a cross-generational hit — people who grew up playing GTA 3 and Vice City on the Playstation 2 now have families of their own. And while the contents here aren’t exactly wholesome, this is something both fathers and sons are hyped up for. It’s not unlike the fervor over Phantom Menace 25 years ago…but let’s hope the end result turns out better.

GTA VI is currently set to be released May 26, 2026, but with Rockstar’s track record, don’t be surprised if another delay hits it.
