Rick And Morty Season Eight Premieres May 27

rick and morty season 8

As far as Adult Swim April Fools’ “pranks” go, we’ve had better, but everyone who sat through a half-hour of dramatic arthouse re-enactments of famous scenes from Rick And Morty got something for their trouble: a preview clip from Season 8.

Until this point, Season 8 of Rick And Morty has barely been seen in any form (in fact this might’ve been the first public clip). Compare this to Seasons 6 and 7, when we were given previews and animatics months and months in advance. They’ve kept this one close to the laserproof vest.

At least this first clip is seasonally appropriate, depicting the mad scientist and his grandkid visiting an Easter-themed planet. They walk past people in bunny masks, uncover an Easter Egg, and are confronted by alien Catholic space soldiers.

That, however, doesn’t mean we’ll actually GET the episode on Easter. The premiere date is close, but not THAT close. Adult Swim revealed it at the end of everything: May 25 at 11 PM. Then they gave this cryptic paragraph of hints to the press:

Rick and Morty is back for Season Eight! Life has meaning again! Anything is possible! Look out for adventures with Summer, Jerry, Beth, and the other Beth. Maybe Butter Bot will get a new task? Whatever happens, you can’t keep Rick and Morty down for long. People have tried!

“We hope you enjoyed our theater interpretations of Rick and Morty, especially if you are well-off/impulsive and now want to back a Broadway version of the show,” says Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen. “For the rest of you, we’re glad you now know when Season Eight is starting so you have time to stretch and get loose because the team has yet again made a totally great season of television.”

We don’t know a lot, so we can’t verify their claims of totally great, bur we can at least say with confidence it will be better than Rick And Morty: The Anime. The real thing returns May 25.
