Rumor: Warner Bros. is Looking to Sell the Looney Tunes Brand?!?

Per a new report from Jeff Sneider’s “The InSneider”, there is word that Warner Bros is looking to sell the Looney Tunes brand. This report states the following:

“I’m told that part of the reason WB decided to sell Coyote vs. Acme to Ketchup rather than take a tax credit a month before Tax Day (April 15) is because the studio is trying to sell off the Looney Tunes altogether.”

Looney Tunes has been part of the Warner Bros Studios from almost the beginning, with Warner Bros releasing animated Looney Tunes shorts in theatres from 1930 to 1969. These animated shorts were taken off Warner Bros’ streaming service Max recently. Other Looney Tunes content, like the 2020s Looney Tunes Cartoons, is still streaming on Max.

Despite Warner Bros creating the animated Looney Tunes film “The Day the Earth Blew Up’’, Warner Bros sold the distribution rights to the smaller media company, Ketchup Entertainment, which released the film in theatres on March 14, 2025. It has been reported that Ketchup Entertainment is in negotiations to release the animated/live action film, Coyote vs. Acme, a film originally shelved by Warner Bros for a tax write-off.

Warner Bros does not seem interested in the Looney Tunes brand nowadays, with reports saying that Looney Tunes is not a priority for Warner Bros now. Those reports seem to be born out, with Warner Bros selling the disruption rights to Looney Tunes to films to third-party companies like Ketchup Entertainment, and Warner Bros seems to be putting more focus on other franchises like DC Comics and Harry Potter.

If Warner Bros sells the Looney Tunes to another company, that could be a big game-changer in the animation industry, considering that it was a successful brand in the past that is associated with Warner Bros. Who could buy Looney Tunes? Ketchup Entertainment released the latest Looney Tunes film, but could they have the money to buy the entire brand? Could Disney buy the brand just to have another franchise under its control? You also have major streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, which are looking for more content to air, so perhaps a streaming service could buy the brand? Regardless, the Looney Tunes franchise may be going through major changes soon.
