Solar Opposites Ending After Upcoming Sixth Season

Planet Shlorp was a perfect utopia…until the cancellation hit. Hulu has just announced early details regarding the upcoming sixth season of Solar Opposites, the most notable being the fact that this will be the last one.

Solar Opposites has had a respectable run…six seasons in the tumultuous streaming market is nothing to sneeze at, let alone surviving and thriving beyond the scandalous departure of co-creator Justin Roiland. In addition to five seasons so far the show has had four holiday specials celebrating Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Halloween twice.

So the big question is…were the writers AWARE that the sixth season would be the last season? Over the years Solar Opposites has added a lot of long-winded subplots to its narrative, like the shrunken human society of The Wall (now The Yard) and the space epic Silvercops. These stories tend to hang themselves with no definite resolution at the end of each season. Are we getting a wrap-up for all this stuff or will it be left unfinished?

The teaser paragraph Hulu provided offers no answers, focusing more on the central alien family: “When the Solar Opposites family goes broke, they must learn to survive on Earth without any of their sci-fi devices or the massive amounts of video games, snacks and luxury watches they’re used to.” Sounds like the plot of the season premiere, not the season as a whole, so it’s really anyone’s guess what happens to anybody.

Solar Opposites features the voices of Dan Stevens as Korvo, Thomas Middleditch as Terry, Mary Mack as Jesse and Sean Giambrone as Yumyulack, alongside Tiffany Haddish, Kieran Culkin, Christina Hendricks, Ken Marino, Alfred Molina, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell and Beck Bennett. Hulu has yet to reveal the exact date the series will debut its final episodes, but says it will be in the fall.
