Plankton: The Movie Coming To Netflix March 7, 2025

With a show like SpongeBob SquarePants having been on the air for over a quarter of a century, it’s not a surprise when the franchise expands in one way or the other with some kind of spinoff. That’s the case with Plankton: The Movie, which hits Netflix on March 7, 2025. Here’s everything that you need to know.

Plankton: The Movie focuses on Plankton yet again dealing with another failure in his quest to take over the world. When his computer wife Karen has had enough of his incompetence, she decides to take over the world on her own. Now, in order for Plankton to rule the world, he has to team up with SpongeBob in order to save Bikini Bottom. Talk about quite the irony.

This movie is the second of character centric spinoff movies for Netflix, with the first one being the 2024 movie Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie. The movie sees the return of the show’s legacy voice cast, including Mr. Lawrence as Plankton, Jill Talley as Karen, Tom Kenny as SpongeBob, Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick, Carolyn Lawrence as Sandy, Clancy Brown as Mr. Krabs and Rodger Bumpass as Squidward. The movie will be written by Mr. Lawrence (which isn’t surprising since he also writes on the show), Kaz (also not a surprise since he co-wrote Sandy’s movie, and also works on the show), and Chris Viscardi. The movie will be directed by Dave Needham, who previously directed The Loud House Movie. Series veterans Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller are executive producers for the movie. The songs will be written by Bret McKenzie (Flight of the Conchords), Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Linda Perry, Mark Mothersbaugh & Bob Mothersbaugh.

Plankton: The Movie is produced by Nickelodeon Movies. And that’s all we know at the moment. What do you think? Are you excited for the movie? Comment below.
