Sakamoto Days are almost here! Netflix’s next big anime lands this Saturday and the final trailer was released this morning. The actin-comedy series is based on the Shonen Jump manga of the same name by Yuto Suzuki.
Taro Sakamoto was once the most feared assassin in Japan….until he disappeared. What happened was he softened up…in more ways than one. He fell in love with a convenience store clerk, married her, and moved to the countryside where he opened up a small mom-and-pop store with his wife and new daughter. It’s been years since then, and he’s gotten out of shape.
That, however, doesn’t mean he doesn’t still have the moves to defend his family. There’s a wrinkle, however….his wife won’t allow him to kill anyone! He’ll need some new strategies…and more help. Enter Shin Asakura, another retired assassin with telekinetic abilities, who agrees to help the family.
Sakamoto Days is directed by Masaki Watanabe (Battle Spirits, KADO: The Right Answer, Bartender) with series composition by Taku Kishimoto (Fruits Basket, Ranking of Kings, Haikyu!!) and character design by Yo Moriyama (Lupin the 3rd: Goemon’s Blood Spray and Jigen’s Gravestone; director, Megalobox).
“When I first had the chance to read Sakamoto Days, I remember how electrifying the powerful action scenes were,” says Watanabe. “We intend to faithfully portray the character of Sakamoto, the family man and the killer who doesn’t kill. Our staff are putting their all into this, so stay tuned!”
The English dub stars Matthew Mercer (Critical Role) as Taro Sakamoto, Dallas Liu (Avatar: The Last Airbender) as Shin Asakura, Rosie Okumura as Aoi Sakamoto, Rosalie Chiang (Turning Red) as Lu Shaotang, Lexi Cabrera aka Alexa Bliss as Obiguro, Xolo Maridueña as Heisuke Mashimo, SungWon Cho (Delicious in Dungeon) as Boiled, Dushaunt “Fik-Shun” Stegall as Son Hee, Toru Uchikado (Castlevania) as Bacho, and Aleks Le (Solo Leveling) as Nagumo.
The Japanese cast includes Tomokazu Sugita as Taro Sakamoto, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Shin Asakura, Ayane Sakura as Lu Shaotang, Nao Toyama as Aoi Sakamoto, Hina Kino as Hana Sakamoto and Ryota Suzuki as Heisuke Mashimo.
Sakamoto Days launches January 11, with new episodes premiering weekly on Netflix.
