I know I made a big scene out of Coraline returning to theaters in 3D last month, but I personally never went…the reason being there was just never a convenient time in my schedule over the three weeks it was playing. It did kind of bother me that I missed my shot, because this was the first time it had been available in three dimensions since its original release 15 years ago, and who knew when it would ever happen again?

Apparently now! Laika and Fathom have decided to give the stop-motion classic an encore run. The re-release was a surprise success for Fathom, grossing in the top five each week it was out and taking in $53 million altogether. When you add in the revenue from this release, Coraline is now the highest-grossing stop-motion film in history, beating out The Nightmare Before Christmas and Chicken Run.

Because of this, they’re putting Coraline back on Halloween weekend, and yes, it will be available in 3D. Also, this time the screenings will include a sneak peek at Wildwood, Laika’s next feature, which was revealed after the earlier re-release was over.

Coraline was Laika’s first film, their entry into the animated market. Its success paved the way for the studio’s other films like Paranorman, The Boxtrolls, and the highly underrated Kubo And The Two Strings (hey, how about a re-release for that one?)

Coraline Jones has just moved with her family to a deep forest in the middle of nowhere, and she hates it. The blue-haired tween would give anything to have better parents…and seems to get her wish when she discovers a small door in her new house that leads to a parallel world. In the 3D version, you can actually perceive how long the tunnel is!

Coraline’s new parents are much more into fun than her old ones, but there’s one off-putting difference: they have large buttons where their eyes should be. And, as Coraline finds out, that’s just the beginning. It isn’t long before she’s desperately trying to get back — but at this point it’s easier said than done!

Coraline 3D is a nationwide release and you should be able to find the showings nearest you by heading to the Fathom Events website. This may be the last chance to visit this dimension for a long time.
